I really enjoy cartooning. Unfortunately, I find sketchbooks are rather expensive and not very good value for money. Can you suggest some cheaper alternatives?

Dear Tim,
I am a single mother and I like art. But I cannot afford to buy expensive art equipment. Paint and painting materials such as clay painting trays are so costly that I cannot afford it. I use sugar bowls instead. Please help.
